2011 Games Event Details
The 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games are the best 50 bucks you can spend in sports, according to ESPN Magazine. For CrossFitters, this is the biggest community event of the year, and this year is better than ever. The Home Depot Center is going to be stacked with fun activities, opportunities to workout, delicious food, beer, and your favorite vendors … not to mention the three-day competition for the world’s fittest athlete.
The Games will be held again in Carson, CA on July 29-31. The events are kept secret throughout the competition, so keep checking back to the website to get all the specific competition details. Gates will open each day at 8 a.m., and competition will run all day. Expect the lights to come on before the end of competition on Friday and Saturday. Sunday will wrap up earlier in the day, scheduled to end at 4 p.m.
Parking will be $15 per day. This is the same as last year, but now cars have in-and-out privileges. If you need to run out to get something, you won't be charged again when you come back. Once you’re in the doors, there is no assigned seating. You will have access to the entire facility, including Tent City, the food court, the beer garden, and the three competition venues – the Stadium, Track, and Masters Arena.

The Competition
There will be many different ways to keep up with the competition. Four Jumbotrons covering live action will be viewable throughout the arena. Ever had trouble following the competition? CrossFit has teamed with Information and Display Systems (IDS), a provider of information and display technology for the sports industry, including this year's Wimbledon tennis championship, to allow fans to see live scoring to get the most updated information as it happens. Three four-sided LED towers will show the schedule and a live leaderboard.
Just as the Games’ competitive experience has gotten bigger and better each year, the spectator experience has also grown exponentially. Remember when it was cool to have one jumbotron and flooring in Aromas? This year, we’ve imported a beach, brought an In-N-Out Truck, and an entire village of CrossFitters and gear.
CrossFit HDC
A Workout of the Day area will be stocked with the space and equipment needed for the mainsite workout. A whiteboard will feature that day’s best performances, so if you work hard enough you just may win the title of “Fittest Spectator on Earth.”
Sports Series Beach and Cool Zone
Carson can get hot, but you can chill out in the Cool Zone, a 50 by 50 tent brought to you by the CrossFit Sports Series. It will be right next to the Sports Series Beach, featuring a slackline, horseshoes, beach volleyball, and a corn hole game. There have even been rumors of a mechanical bull.
Double Doubles and Beer
A Beer Garden will be right across the street from In-N-Out Burger, Wahoo’s Fish Tacos, and the main entrance to the stadium. If you can’t get enough beer, check out the Michelob Ultra truck, complete with shade, TV’s, and bar stools.
Be sure to bring a valid form of identification!
The Best Coaching in the World
Having trouble learning the snatch, or shouldering Atlas stones? Come to the CrossFit Training Area and get personalized coaching in the Olympic lifts, strongman moves, kettlebells, and more from our subject matter experts.
Christmas for CrossFitters
The Vendor village will be filled with fifty vendors, including the official Games merchandise provided by Reebok. In addition, you can expect to see a lot of your favorite gear companies and learn about some new ones. Prove your fitness and win some free gear: Reebok will have a throwdown area, Barbells for Boobs will have Grace-offs, and Concept 2 will have rowing challenges.
Bring Your Brats
If you’re taking your kids along, it’s no problem. The Kids area will feature a bounce house, rock climbing wall, and more. If they’re too young to be let loose, the stadium will offer a limited daycare service if you want to drop your kids off in the A/C while you roam around.
Kids under 12 can get into the event for free, on all days. The Sport Series area will also have activities for all ages, and plenty of space for them to burn off some steam.
Guidelines for Tent City
First come, first served! Tent space is available for the first people who get to the site and claim their area. There will be food vendors, a Jumbotron, places to workout and a beer truck complete with TV's and bar stools. Bring your own pop-up tent and coolers to keep you fresh for the whole day.
Information About the Free Live Webcast
Once again, we are bringing all the excitement of the CrossFit Games to the web. There will be a three-hour show at the end of each of the three days. You'll see the biggest heats of the day live, mixed with the best of the earlier events, highlights, interviews, and in-depth commentary.
If that's not enough for you, we will also stream every heat of every event on a separate page. This will be the Jumbotron footage that spectators on site will be watching. The audio will be whatever comes through the local PA.
On top of all this, we also have the Masters stream on a third page. All Masters all the time. Every heat of every age division streamed live throughout the weekend.
What should I bring with me?
The CrossFit Games is not a normal take-your-seat kind of event. The days are packed and it's gonna be hot. Wear comfortable clothes that you might want to work out in (see below), and maybe an extra layer to keep the sun off of you in the afternoon or in case it gets a little cool at night. Sunglasses and/or a hat are a good idea. We'll have sunscreen available for you on-site. Most vendors and concessions will take credit cards. You can bring bags or a cooler in, and you are encouraged to bring a pop-up tent and chairs for Tent City.
What can I DO while I'm on-site?
You can workout, party and shop...and by "shop" we of course mean beg the vendors for free stuff.
If you are a t-shirt junkie like the rest of us, bring an extra carry-on bag 'cause you'll have a LOT of fresh gear coming home with you. The venue will be stacked with vendors with exclusive lines of apparel just for the Games, and classic threads that you can't get on-line.
There will be multiple areas on-site for you to use your fitness. Reebok is sponsoring a throw-down area and awarding prizes for spectators. Concept 2 will host rowing challenges daily. LOTS of vendors will be hosting mini-workouts and giving away free swag. If you want more action, we'll even have a fully stocked workout area in Tent City for you to do the Workout of the Day.
The CrossFit Sports Series will be building a sand beach, and have a variety of games open for all spectators. Horseshoes and cornhole all the way to Hooverball. There is also a rumor of a mechanical bull and a pool. That's right...we said the "P" word.
If working out isn't in the cards, then make sure you are at least getting your curls in. Frosty adult beverages will be available all over, and one of the best locations will be the Beer Garden in Tent City.
What is the schedule for the weekend?
Here is what is known: Athletes arrive Tuesday. Wednesday night we will release the first workouts to the Athletes (we'll be tweeting and publishing reports and videos on this site also). The first workouts will begin on Friday morning, with the Opening Ceremony on Friday evening. Saturday will be a full day with events taking place at all three venues at the Home Depot Center. Plan on some workouts under the lights on Friday and Saturday. Sunday will wrap up sometime in the afternoon, likely before 5pm.
Scheduled start times for workouts will be released throughout the weekend. Just like the competitors, be ready for anything and everything! If you don't have a smart phone or access to the web, you'll be able to count on large information towers located throughout the campus to stay in the know.
